2.2.1.3 Fax Speed
Fax speed is controlled by three things: the maximum speed the sender
supports, the maximum speed the receiver supports, and what speed the
phone lines and telephone network can support. The lowest of these three
speeds will be used. For example, if the sender supports speeds up to 14,400,
the receiver supports speeds up to 12,000, but the line can only support 9600,
the fax will be sent at 9600.
There are two common reasons to change the allowed fax speed:
Prevent Slow Faxes: At the lower speeds faxes can take an unusually long
time to send or receive. It is useful to increase the minimum allowed speed to
9600 to disallow faxes from using very slow speeds. If the line quality is poor
enough that the fax cannot be sent or received at 9600, it will fail instead of
using lower speeds.
Troubleshooting Poor Line Quality: If line quality is poor and many faxes
are failing with communication errors, success rate may be slightly improved by
decreasing the maximum allowed fax speed to 9600.
You can configure the speeds allowed for sending and receiving in the Change
Server Settings utility, Start ► Programs ► NET SatisFAXtion ► Change
